Loving father of Angus M. of Chelsea, Martha A. of Pasadena, CA and the late David J. MacMaster. Grandfather of Michael R. MacMaster of Columbus, OH. Father-in-law of Gail MacMaster of Hingham. Also survived by many nieces and a nephew. Robert was a 1940 graduate of Harvard University. He also received his Master’s and Doctorate degrees from Harvard. Mr. MacMaster was a Professor of German and Russian History and Literature. He was an expert in the works of Leo Tolstoy. He is a Professor Emeritus of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, having taught there for over 40 years. Robert was a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII. He served in the reserves for 28 years retiring as a Lt. Colonel and Artillery Commander. He walked several miles a day and enjoyed World’s End in Hingham. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the Life Celebration Service in Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, 21 Emerald St., HINGHAM, Saturday at 9:15 AM. Funeral Mass in Saint Paul’s Church, Hingham at 10:00 AM. Visiting hours Friday 4-7 PM. Burial in Saint Paul’s Cemetery, Hingham.
